(JCB) p.243 Wedding Dreams

I always told myself I will never get married. I just don’t want to get married because I find it unnecessary and too much if we were to split up. I did plan how I would like my dress if I were to have a wedding but never planned the whole wedding before just the dress because I would see dresses bit other than that it really doesn’t catch my eye to ever have one. Also I am Mexican and we never really have big weddings like that. Also I feel like they are too expensive to have one. I really don’t know why it is not appealing to me but I think it’s because of my love life I never had a boyfriend or experience anything so maybe I will change my mind when I do get the experience.

(JCB) Chapter 8: White Wedding/Marriage and the Family

I never thought about weddings in any way till I read this chapter. Weddings are always bog and is a white wedding. I believe that weddings are Americanize and everyone wants to have a big wedding. I never thought of the gender roles play a part in the weddings. It talked about how the male kisses the bride not the other way around which is stereotyping about the man and woman roles. Also it stated that woman should “bare 2.1 children in their lifetime to have the population to be stable.” This made me really mad because why are they saying we have to keep the population stable it is not all on us. Also what if some woman don’t want to have children they should not put this fact out because I think it is really offensive to woman. Overall weddings are expensive and everything should be equal with anyone wanting to get married.

(JCB) p.330 Counting Beauty

I am doing the website Calvin Klein because I know it has Men and Woman in it. Right when I went on the website it had a black male and a white woman they are both in shape and in fit. The races throughout this is white and black for both genders. All you see is fit woman and men till I passed by a couple of plus size women and men they are white and black. They keep the same race which I find it equal but I don’t like how they have the plus men or woman picture right when you enter the website. Why can’t they have them all together? It makes no sense it is like if they are hiding the plus size. This is why people think they have to be skinny and have insecurities because they only care about beauty instead of just not caring. Also why is it always black and white people who are models on websites why isn’t their other races?

(JCB) p.207 Toy Store Observation

I went to Walmart and they have two different section for the boys and girls toys. Before you enter each of the aisle you can tell which one is the boy toys and the girl toes. The girl aisle is all pink u see all pink before you enter and bright colors. As for the boy aisle before you enter you see all dark/ bright blue and orange . The toys in the girl section is all dolls and stuffed animals and dresses. As for the boy section it is all cars and superhero dolls and sports balls. It crazy to see the difference with the aisles and how you can tell which aisle to go to before entering it.

(JCB) Chapter 11: Beauty/ Ideology and Intersectionality

The world is just all about beauty and what beauty is considered. This chapter is basically all about what is wrong with the world. There will always be social construction on what you look like and wear and how you carry yourself. This makes people have insecurities because people have a look and a definition of what beauty is and its not all the bad things like fat, acne, height, etc.

(JCB) Chapter 7: Toys/ Gender, Sex and Sexuality

This is really interesting because kids should like what they want and it shouldn’t matter their gender to play with certain toys. The story I read at the beginning with the mothers friend telling her that she should get her daughter the pink stuff animal than the blue one. This mad me really mad because the child was a baby and didn’t know the difference and the color shouldn’t matter at all. Some children are born intersex so they are both so do do they have to like one certain toy. The answer is no they should like whatever they like just like a boy and girl child should like whatever they want. I think overall this toy and gender thing is socially constructed and it shouldn’t be.

(JCB) Chapter 12: Music/ Racism and Cultural Appropriation

Music is amazing I love it it helps me with a lot of my emotions. Music is also a voice for people. Everyone has a different taste in music. Music can lead to race though because some culture make music for there cultural and only they would understand it and like it. Also music is a voice for people who don’t speak up. For example NWA was the most popular group that made a song about fuck the police and everyone who was black liked it because the cops would only pick on their race. I personally like all music because it opens my mind up. I have at least one song from every different type of genre of music. Music goes a long way and is very meaningful.

(JCB) Chapter 6: Sports/Race (Omit Section 4, 164-169)

Sports are really great way to connect with people and what you like. There is different teams and there is some people that like that team and some people who don’t. The way people like the team can be because they went to that school, their family like it , or because of the media they get. Also they say certain races like certain sports like for example I am Mexican and us Mexicans are suppose to soccer fans but I am not we don’t like soccer. Also as for hockey they say that is a white peoples sport. I find it interesting and crazy because why would race matter in sports.

(JCB) Chapter 4: Coffee/Class

I can relate to this chapter because I drink coffee every morning. I love the taste but it has become dependent that I have to drink it everyday. When they talked about Starbucks I didn’t really think about how it makes people feel at a higher status because of the cup and how it’s better than a McDonalds cup. I do believe that coffee does draw social boundaries because there is some people that like and don’t like coffee. Also if you go to a Starbucks there is people sitting and drinking there coffee and you can easily meet people and get new friends. All coffee shops are like this because who ever likes coffee will go there and there are other places besides coffee to go and drink and eat just like different restaurants.

(H) 535-546: Wishard, Caught Between the Ages

This chapter made me really think about what is going on in todays world with the corona virus. Globalization, new stage of technology and long term psychological and spiritual reorientation are the main things that need the world to function. Without all this it will be really bad just like how we are now. It says at the end of the chapter that the “next three decades may be the most decisive…. in human history.” Which with the whole corona virus everyone is freaking out and believing everything is going to be really bad and the book was right about the world being decisive.
