This article is focused on becoming a female. Females are always based on their looks. In the study they looked at middle school girls and how they gossip about other girls and they way they look. Even guys look at girls and go off their appearance. This is still a big problem today girls are really just looks. This is really sad to see because girls shouldn’t have to deal with looks.
(H) 161-172: Henslin, On Becoming Male
In this chapter Henslin talks about on becoming male. There is always a society role of males. Once they come out and have a penis they are gender is male. There are so many concerns about males they have to like male color and do male things. For example if they like the color pink or like girl things then they will be judged and shamed on. The thing is what if someone is born with both gender aspects. They shouldn’t be judge for that same thing with a male shouldn’t be judge. Since society made what male have to be like then that what they have to be and act like.

I asked my mom, dad, sister, grandma and grandpa these question and they all answered some what of the same. Their answer to the question what race are you they said they are Mexican. They said they knew they were Mexican because of their cultural aspects and way of living. They said all said that they din’t make the decision they are just born that race. They all learned what race they were about they lifestyle and way they were living. They said they decided peoples race by seeing what they look like. You can tell what people look like because every race has a different look. People decide what race my family is by there looks because they are dark skin and the main reason they speak Spanish. Race is your where you come from and what you are. Race is socially constructed because every race is different and has different beliefs and cultural ways of living. Also the fact that we live in a white society and they have the higher standards and of another race lives up to that they look at them different.
(H) 369-375: Ezekiel, The Racist Mind
This chapter did not change my mind about Racist people. I think that if they have to have speeches and say what they don’t like about other people than they shouldn’t be heard. They should just keep it to themselves and not have a voice. This just causes hate and dislike between people. I will never understand the mind of a Racist and maybe it is because they put me in this situation.
(H) 360-368: Page, Showing My Color
This story is basically how race is today. We live in a white community and white people set the rules and they see the world how they want to. The story of this journalist was he was “black living in a white society.” This really made sense because in today’s society there is still racism and a way to look at it is because we live in a white society.
Youtube Video: Wealth Inequality in the United States
This video was not a surprise for me I knew the reality pf how wealth is split. It was crazy to see how people think of the wealth was split. I didn’t think of the wealth being split like that I thought of it how the reality was. Especially the ideal and how it was split wasn’t even close to how it really is split. Overall, the poor will always be poor and rich will always be richer.
(H) 395-406: Higley, The U.S Upper Class
The upper class will never understand how the other working class work for their lives. After reading this my mindset stayed the same and how I feel about the upper class. They will never have any problems with money and they get the private schools for their kids so they are set for life.
(H) 383-394: Morris & Grimes, Moving Up….
Being into today’s society we all want to succeed and have a higher education. Working class is a class that is very hard because they work a lot and don’t have a lot of time for there children. There is middle class and upper middle class as well and these people work but not as hard as the working class. Overall, the working class is always caught in the middle because there backgrounds experience is a feeling of being like the middle class but they aren’t the middle class.
(H) 376-382: Gans, The Uses of Poverty
I didn’t know that the poor support the functionalist thesis. There was 13 reasons how the poor is important and is overlooked. This made me really think about how my family helps and are hard workers. People being poor help out the world a lot and I realized that reading the 23 reasons how the poor does help. I new the poor are always hard workers and they pay for what they need. The poor can ” have access to enough capital to take over the provider role….. if they were more affluent.” This is really true because the poor does a lot. This chapter really helped me understand the importances of the poverty.

I was socialized in my gender by my mom. My mom always told me when I was younger I needed to help out in the kitchen because I am a girl and need to learn how to cook for my husband and kids one day. Which I never really though about this till now it didn’t really bother me back than. Now that I think about it I wonder if I didn’t learn how to cook what would she have said. My mom would always tell me I need to carry myself as a young lady because I represent them when I go out into the world and if I look bad then I make my mom look bad because they didn’t raise me right. My mom mainly socialized my gender.
